Elite local football coaches in Malawi have described the just-ended Confederation of African Football (CAF)-A Licence course as an eye-opener in their career in terms of seeing the game from a scientific viewpoint.

Twenty-three of the 27 coaches that were invited, took part in the one-and-a-half month-long training that ended on Tuesday at Mpira Village in Chiwembe, Blantyre. Kinnah Phiri, Sterio Gondwe, Young Chimodzi and McNebet Kadzuwa were some of the coaches that failed to attend the training.

“I have been taking part in various coaching courses in Germany and Zimbabwe before, but this particular course has opened my eyes to see things from a superior perspective,” said former Nyasa Big Bullets coach Franco Ndawa.

“I now have great knowledge of the game and if every participant grasped whatever we learned from the course as I did, then Malawi football will not be the same again. We will no longer see the game with our normal eyes.”

Meke Mwase concurred with Ndawa that the course has tremendously helped them to improve their technical abilities.

He said they now have the ability to know what kind of attack to deploy in various game situations. He said they have learned advanced attacking techniques such as width, mobility, improvisational and depth.

According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) technical director John Kaputa, the course was helpful to Malawi football development and he is hopeful that local coaches will pass examinations from Zambian CAF coaches’ assessor Honour Janza.

According to one of the local instructors during the course Eddingtone Ng’onamo, the coaches were drilled in practical, oral, theory, laws of the game and sports medicine.n
